We Can't Sit This One Out

For those of you who are still struggling with what to do on November 8…or who know someone who is…I’d just like to say I understand. I feel many of the same frustrations that you do. But this may help.

Regardless of what we may think of either candidate (or both), we each need to look at the bigger picture. The agenda and direction that we want to see our country take. The broad character that we want to define us for the next generation. This election isn’t ultimately about the candidates. It’s about our values, and our future. And for those of us who are Christians, it is about prayerfully and compassionately discerning the times and knowing what to do in the light of truth.

We have the freedom to vote and help shape what that future will look like. What we choose to do on November 8 will ultimately be determined not by how much we like or dislike a particular person. It will be determined by our willingness to take personal responsibility and steward that freedom with which we’ve been blessed.

My friend Dave Huizenga and I have just prepared and released two free resources that we believe will help you in the next days and beyond. A special edition of our podcast and a prayer guide for the nation. You can download them both at the link below. Take them. Use them. Share them with your friends. It costs nothing but your time to listen, think, pray and pass these along. And please vote. For the responsible person, not doing so is really not an option! You can make a difference...right where you are.

A Faith that Can't Be Silent

Yes. We live in a volatile world. Every day, a host of conflicting and contradictory voices and agendas are vying for our attention and loyalty.  Voices often insisting on agreement with their particular perspective to the exclusion of all others.  Or else. And to an ever increasing degree, these voices and perspectives are seeking to marginalize and silence anyone who attempts to speak or live out a Christian perspective in the public square.  Anyone who dares claim to speak or live a truth higher than their own.  It’s easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged. What should we do? Who should we believe? How should we pray? How should we respond?

But in the midst of the strident demands and vitriolic attitudes that seem to have become the new normal in our culturre, something else is emerging. Something new and ancient. Something that flies in the face of all the competing agendas and talking points of the world and its would-be rulers in every sector of society.

Even a cursory reading of the New Testament, especially the book of Acts, reveals that most of the real action took place outside the centers of institutional religion. The message and power of the faith life experience of taught by Jesus found its traction and impact in the streets and homes…with merchants and tradesmen, builders and farmers, slaves and bureaucrats.

The Lord is awakening and igniting movements of people around the world that will shake lives and bring real revival, transforming individuals and nations.  We are experiencing one of those moments in history that is pregnant with God's capacity to do tremendous things as He sets souls ablaze with an intensely practical heart cry for something fresh and powerful and radically other to break in on the scene of our day to day lives! “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done. Here and now on earth exactly as it is in heaven.”

Season Two of Marketplace Kingdom premieres with a conversation on prayer and practical Kingdom vision. Our guests are Seal Sylvester Jammeh and Dirk Ailts.

Seal is Director of Youth for Christ in The Gambia in west Africa, founding pastor of Greater Works Ministries, and an influential leader in the Educational, Governmental, Medical, Business, and Religious sectors of his nation.

Dirk is a pastor, life and leadership coach, and executive director of International Steward, an organization that focuses on seeing churches and organizations around the world become self sustaining and thriving centers of the gospel's redeeming power.

Listen as they share their own stories about the good news of God’s Kingdom and power to transform lives and impact cultures now…right where we are!
